DENNY CUP RESULT AND REPORT v SPALDING 03/11/2018               from Gordon Wood

What I predicted to be a difficult and competitive fixture turned out to be a very difficult and competitive fixture.

The two away rinks had arrived confident but unfortunately both ended on the losing side.

Danny's rink were hit hard from the off with opposing skip Graham Smith on top form throughout the game and his rink backing him up well they dominated the play scoring 26 while limiting Lincoln to just 11.

J Staples, S Ashton, D Stevenson, D Brown. Lost 11-26

On the neighbouring rink Kevin was having a battle royal with Martin Spencer's rink. With the upper hand changing more than once. With both rinks playing well it was anyone's game until a combination of good bowls and a little bad luck saw Martin's rink win 6 out of 7 ends, which in a close game is always crucial. The Lincoln rink were unable to come back and finally ended 16-22

J Nott, S Burton, B Wilson, K Rands. Lost 16-22

The homes rinks had mixed fortunes, Billy's rink were held at 5 all after five ends. The next 5 ends were just as competitive and Lincoln finished i down after 10 ends. What was proving to be a close game suddenly took a turn for the worse as Billy went one shot up after the 13th end as Spalding hit a purple patch scoring 6, 0, 2, 2. 1 while limiting the home side to 2 shots. This proved too much as we could only score 4 more shots

R Jackson, I Tointon, A Watts, W Jackson Lost 18 - 22

There was a strange start to the game between Richard's rink and Jordan Philpott's rink as LIBC dropped a 6 on the 3rd before scoring a 5 on the 5th to end 7-9 at five ends. At ten ends the deficit was only 1 after 10 ends. For the second time in the game the home side picked up a 5 only to drop a 2, 3, 1 to reach the 15th end all square at 18-18.Good for the spectators but nerve wracking for the rest of us. Three successive 2's put Lincoln in the driving seat but Spalding nearly did it, fortunately good home play limited them to just 4 shots on the last three ends.

G Draper, P O'Reilly, M Smith, R Ashton WON 24-22

Thank you to all those who have played this year, and to Paul Morris and Dennis Skayman who have kept me up to date as the matches progressed.
