Little late this week due to working on the camera on Monday and being otherwise engaged yesterday. With the winter season having finished the summer season barely begun there is little to report. However, if any of you outdoor club secretaries have any event planned that you would like to be publicised on the website then send me an e-mail giving me the details.
UNPOPULAR NEWS
Just a reminder that rink fees have increased by five pence per hour from from May 1. This was previously announced in the Roll Up magazine some time ago but most if not all have forgotten this, myself included.
PRESENTATION EVENING
Danny would be very pleased to see as many people as possible in the club tomorrow morning at 9 AM to help with the laying of the boards on the green for Presentation Evening. A similar level of help will of course be required on Tuesday morning in order to clear the green after the Bank Holiday.
During the evening the ladies (Penny Strong) and men's (Billy Jackson) Premier League champions will play each other to decide club championship. The winner of this match will be presented with a trophy commemorating the life of Wally Bateman. Wally was a great servant to this club and those who travelled to friendly matches in years gone past will well remember him as their bus driver. Wally's family will be attending and will present the trophy to the winner. With both champions being current members of their England teams this should prove to be an interesting match. One of the beauties of the indoor game is that such a game can take place as a test of ability rather than physical strength.
PBA QUALIFIERS
Last weekend the the club hosted the qualifying competitions for the Scottish and Welsh Opens. Danny has asked me to thank all those involved in helping to run the sort of well-organised event for which this club is becoming well known.
FRIENDLY MATCH v SPALDING
On a very miserable cold rainy Saturday 21st April Margaret took our Friendly Bowling Team to Spalding by Coach for the last game of this season and was warmly welcomed by Captain Geoff Croft.
To start with we must thank our valuable reserves John Willock, John Ponwaye, Liz & Martin Yallop who played on the day also Cath Clarke & John Goldspink who were available if required. I cannot stress enough how important it is to have reserves available, thank you all so much for this support.
This was obviously a hard fought game, playing against Spalding on their green is not easy and while the score was 108 to Lincoln and 115 to Spalding, we only lost by 7 shots overall. We did have a Winning Rink 27 – 15 shots and well done Ann French, Ken Fraser-Rowe, Paul Ward and Sid East, hope your Lottery numbers came up as well.
NEWS EXTRA
At the Ladies Dinner Margaret and I were presented with THE BARRY CLEMENTS TROPHY CLUB MEMBER OF THE YEAR AWARD for so successfully running the Weekend Friendly Games. It is due to you our Weekend Friendly Bowlers that we are so successful, thank you all so much. Michael Rackham presented the trophy to us and told us we were the first ladies to be awarded this trophy and that our names would be put on the honours list. Thank you so much to all the people involved in awarding us this trophy, it came as a wonderful surprise and rendered me speechless, leaving Margaret to do the talking and Pam Burke very kindly took our photo with Michael.
Marion Hayward
I would like to add my own congratulations to Margaret and Marion for this well-deserved award. Their willingness to give up their time in the organisation of these friendly matches has saved the friendly match programme from extinction. These matches are a valuable social occasion for the club, giving members the opportunity to meet and make new friends outside the club and also for new members of the club to integrate more easily.
CHUCKLE CORNER
This is supposedly a true story from Texas.
A DEA (drugs enforcement agency) officer stopped at a ranch in Texas , and talked with an old rancher. He told the rancher, I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs.
The rancher said, Okay, but don't go in that field over there..... as he pointed out the location.
The DEA officer verbally exploded saying, Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me! Reaching into his rear pants pocket, he removed his badge and proudly displayed it to the rancher. See this badge?! This badge means I am allowed to go wherever I wish.... On any land!! No questions asked or answers given!! Have I made myself clear......do you understand?!!
The rancher nodded politely, apologized, and went about his chores.
A short time later, the old rancher heard loud screams, looked up, and saw the DEA officer running or his life, being chased by the rancher's big Santa Gertrudis bull......
With every step the bull was gaining ground on the officer, and it seemed likely that he'd sureenough get gored before he reached safety. The officer was clearly terrified.
The rancher threw down his tools, ran to the fence and yelled at the top of his lungs.....
Your badge, show him your BADGE........ ! !
